When we first moved into our home the previous owners left a lot of stuff. One of the things they left was an ugly cabinet. This cabinet had cabinet doors. We made it our tv stand for a little bit, but it was just too ugly! I re-did a dresser to be my television stand Then we had it our bookshelf and I didn’t like it. It was so ugly. And so I decided to just put it into the garage. I didn’t want to give it away, because it is kind of broken (holes, flimsy material and old). I wouldn’t feel right selling it as one of my furniture pieces. But, I never wanted to give it away.
Yesterday Derek and I decided that we wanted to have double monitors (for a gaming Youtube Channel we are starting) and so we needed something to place the other monitor on. So I pulled up my crafting britches and went to work on this ugly bookshelf.
I wasn’t sure what exactly I was going to do with it, but I decided that I would use my wood stain that I just bought for another project. It is my FAVORITE stain color which is Dark Walnut stain. And so, I decide to use that on the top. I of course I had to sand the crap out it!
I then decided to also stain around the back of each individual shelf as well as the sides.
After staining the side I took blue tape and taped around the bottom of the bookshelf and around the back to make sure that the paint didn’t go on the stain.
I then decided I didn’t like where the paint was on the front sides and so I decided to stain over them.
I then put a water based pollycrillic and put two coats over it to make sure that it doesn’t scratch or get faded too early.
Then in the house it went!
