It has been a little bit since I have spent time writing an article for my own blog. I have been busy the last couple of weeks writing as a freelancer to multiple different blogs and it has taken most of my writing time. On top of that I am almost 19 weeks pregnant and up until now I have felt kind of sick. I would spend most days being a “couch” parent because I was so sick and tired to really do much of anything. However, I am feeling better now and I am back at my to-do lists and being productive. It has been a lot of fun to get back moving again. I have started doing a lot of yard work mostly (as long as the stupid weather permits it).
So most of you guys know the trials that we have been through with this little house of ours. We have attacked each room with simple makeovers to make each living space more special and easier to live in. So far we have done a living room makeover, laundry room makeover and then a room makeover for my Little C. I also just recently posted the kitchen makeover which was one of my favorite makeovers. I wish that we could spend more money on each make over but we are not in a financial position to do everything that I would like to do with each room. This is especially true for my bathroom. I REALLY wanted to get new light fixtures, refinish the bathtub and then get new floors for the bathroom, but at the moment that isn’t in our budget. BUT a couple of thing of paint were in our budget and so that’s what I went with. So, right now, I am just showing a bathroom progress report rather then a complete makeover.
So originally, there were horrible spindles in the bathroom. These spindles were easily the first thing to go. How they made it to 2015 were beyond me! I quickly got rid of those. The rest of the bathroom transformation took a backseat to other projects that we had in our home. I know I wanted to get ride of the horrible mirrors that were awful medicine cabinets! And then the cupboards were chipping paint. After much consideration I finally decided to get to painting this.
Okay so this is the view into the bathroom from the hall. There was the door that opened into the vanity. Then there is a bath and shower combo to the left. Oh my gosh, that red curtain. I just can’t. Gross! Then the toilet is off to the right, next to the door to the master bathroom. Then in front of the toilet is the sink and counter space. Also when you look into the shower you can see the ugly white shower hammer thing!
This is what we call the “vanity” because it is just counter space. As you can see there was ugly spindles off to the left and then there was a big medicine cabinet mirror. I have disdain medicine cabinets.
This is what is in front of the toilet. Derek and I would walk into the bathroom and this is what we would see. So yes, there are two doors to this bathroom. It is kind of odd, but it works for us (right now). Do you see all of the paint chipping…oh and that medicine cabinet!! Oh gosh!
So, I got rid of the mirrors and put new mirrors up. My husband and I got rid of the horrible shower spout in the bathroom and added something that could go over my husbands head. The other spout was for somebody who was 5’4, but my husband is 6’1. And for some reason he wants the shower to be over his head (I know, high maintenance much hehe). I then painted the mirrors a gray color. I painted the entire bathroom a light gray. We moved the bathroom door to open up towards the bathtub instead of the vanity. We then added a new bathroom light switch where the light switch would turn off if the bathroom door opens. This way we don’t need to go all the way around the door to turn on the light.
I then painted the cabinets blue! It is definitely a bold look but I LOVE It! I then got a free painting from a garage sale and threw that up! I also painted the brass around the bulb light black because the brass look is SO outdated!
So here are some of the after pictures:
Some of the things that I want to do in this bathroom would be to re-finish the bathtub, replace the sink and faucet, re-do the floors with a gorgeous ceramic tile and then finally I would love to switch up the light fixtures! Add that stuff to the list of 30000000 things I want to do to this house hehe!
This next year we are hoping to have a front room makeover, outside of the house makeover (or at least a fully painted home) and then maybe an office reveal. Who knows what this year will bring 🙂
