My blog has gone through a lot in the last 9 months. I can’t believe I have been blogging for 9 months! Crazy! When I decided to write a blog I wasn’t even sure what I wanted my niche to be. I am very well versed in the Criminal Justice and Corrections field, but I REALLY didn’t want to have a blog dedicated to that field. The main reason was that I didn’t want to talk to uneducated people about their point of views of the correction field. I didn’t want to spend countless hours defending the judicial system. I just wanted a very positive environment that I could participate in and talk to like minded people about something that we ALL enjoy talking about.
I started my blog talking about literally EVERYTHING! I wrote about organizing, recipes, motherhood, pregnancy, home decor, diy and so on and so forth! Not that I didn’t enjoy that, but it was hard to find my target audience. I didn’t want people coming to my blog looking for recipes and then I go on a Do-It-Yourself rampage and lose my trusted audience. And I certainly didn’t want men to participate in my blog and then I throw some Post-Partum Depression material down their throats. You could see where my problem is right? I knew I had to get a little more focused.
I decided to take my blog into the “home” route. With this venture I explored SEVERAL different options. I talked about home improvement, home upgrades and even interior design. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE talking about that! I have created two different ECOURSES and I really stand by those course. One of the courses talks about upgraded your home in 20 days with 20 projects. And then other course talks about how to decorate ANY space your home if you follow 14 steps. However, it was VERY hard for people to take me seriously in these fields. I don’t have any interior design background, I don’t make any money with home decor and have ZERO credentials allowing me to be a Captain in this Niche (which I what I aspire to be).
I shortly realized that I REALLY missed talking about “mom” stuff! I love my children and they are seriously my biggest accomplishment. So I pondered for a few days. How can I do my blog, talk about what I love AND make money? The ONE question that you need to ask yourself when trying to monetize your blog is trying to think of something that YOU can offer people. What can I offer people? What can people learn from me? What would people PAY to listen to me to teach them?
And then it hit me…
In high school I was a three sport athlete and managed to ALWAYS be on the honor roll. I was on the national mock trial team and volunteered at the humane society. I went to church every Sunday and church every morning before school. I even managed to get my Young Woman’s Award (Equivalent to Eagle Scout in my Church) at 14 years old (when most get it at 18). I went to college in September after I graduated high school.
I graduated college in THREE years. I graduated even with having medical problems (which required three surgeries) and I had to take a semester off. Throughout my college life I had a part time job, was getting an additional certification (outside of my degree) was the vice president of the criminal justice society, member of the sociology society, took jujitsu and karate, volunteered at the old folks home and was involved in a few club sports. I got married a month after graduating and then I went almost directly into my Masters Degree which I didn’t have to take an entry exam (GRE) because I had such a good GPA in my undergraduate. I graduated with my Masters in a little under 2 years. I graduated even with being sick as a dog with my first baby and then giving birth. I even managed to get a 3.9 G.P.A throughout my Graduate program even moving 3 times and being pregnant (again) with my second child. I walked at graduation being 8 months pregnant with my second child.
My husband and I moved into a home in October 2015 (wow it was a year ago!). It was in BAD shape! Within a year I completely turned it into a new house! It’s night and day difference! Some people don’t even recognize it when they walk in. And I did 99% of the work by myself (while my husband was at work) and with my two children. My youngest was only a few months old when we moved into the home.
I did all of these things without the help of drugs, alcohol, energy drinks or coffee.
You may be thinking a couple of things by me saying all of this stuff about myself. You may be thinking that I am bragging or that I am just really THAT smart. Well first of all I may be bragging a little (but I have a point I swear) and I can assure you that I am not smart….well I am certainly not above intelligence…I am just an average gal. Do you want to know how I was able to do all of these things? I will tell you. First of all, I am one of the most stubborn people you will ever meet. Secondly, I can’t sit still! I have a tough time going to the movies and you can forget about me going to anything theatrical. Lastly, I work smart and hard.
I am not an above average girl. I am not smarter than anybody else. I don’t have more talents than anybody else (I wish I did!) and I certainly don’t have anything that people can’t have. All I have is a hard working soul.
So…that’s when I realized. Holy Crap! I do have something that people want. I do have something that I can teach people! I have the most amazing work ethic (and I am not too humble to admit it). I don’t get to just walk into a test and get an A. I have to study the crap out of the book. I don’t get to just create a flawless project on the first try…no… I have to make several mistakes first. I literally accomplish something to improve myself EVERY day and I realized that I can honestly share that with people and teach people how to get CRAP done!
So the exciting news for my blog?….
I have a new mission statement and purpose. I LOVE the home and family, so I will absolutely maintain in that niche. But I want to get more specific. I want to help parents get things done around the home without neglecting their kiddos. I want to help moms (and daddies if they are interested) stay motivated and productive when it comes to their home.
I get TONS of stuff done around the home and I do it without jeopardizing quality time with my children, putting them in harms way or neglecting their feelings. I even do it without just plopping them in front of the fricken television. I am not against television, but I am against televisions as babysitters….well except that one time that I had stomach flu or during my miscarriages (those are good excuses though). One of the most asked questions isn’t about specific projects that I have done, but How did you do that with children? And that is what I would like to share with you!
With this change I am excited to announce that I am working on a 10 Day “Get Motivated” Email Challenge. This will be 10 things that I DO to keep myself motivated. I am also working on an ECOURSE that is filled with 20 lectures to help YOU stay productive! And each productivity lecture is with the understanding that YOU have children. But WAIT there’s more (hehe) I am also in the very beginning stages (very very very very beginning stages) of writing my very first book! 🙂 I am SO excited about the changes that my blog has made.
I would like to thank you for your patience through all of these changes. I am really excited for this change and I hope that you can stick around for these awesome improvements!
