My Brother vs Brother Season 4 Analysis
If you know anything about HGTV and the famous duo Jonathon and Drew Scott you might have heard of their show Brother vs Brother. Jonathan and Drew originally made their names by having their own show called Property Brothers. Drew is the real estate agent who buys a home for the client and then Jonathan is responsible for doing a complete renovation. They then started a show Property Brothers: Buying and Selling in which Drew tries to find a new home for a family (move in ready) while Jonathan renovates their current house and then Drew sells their renovated home. Well…they then moved onto an awesome show called Brother vs Brother. This show features both Jonathon and Drew renovating a section of the home in each episode, but they are competing in two different homes! So Jonathan is renovating a kitchen in one home and Drew in another and then they would pick a guest to choose which space was better. In the end the brother with the most profit in selling the home is the winner. I thought both brothers did a very good job and each one did something unique with their space. I would love to take the time to discuss my thoughts and feelings about each of their renovated space.
Let us start with Jonathan’s Living Room Renovation. Jonathan chose to do a mid-century modern design. This was a bit of a gamble, because a mid-century modern home is not for everybody. For instance my husband was horrified by this design and the color arrangement and the staging would have totally scared him off. I do love color, but this might have been a bit much for me. I love the hardwood floors and I want to die over that baby blue! However, I don’t like solid white walls! I feel like I am in a doctor’s office. This design might be a little more eclectic for me with the lime green furniture, blue fluffy rugs and pillows, and the red chairs. I am not sure if these would be the furniture pieces I would have chosen.
Drew’s renovated living room was probably more of my style. I loved the floors! I could do without the ugly rug or the even uglier cow rug. I do love the simple furniture with the beautiful throw pillows. I would rather have a different coffee table, but this table does work very well with the modern twist to his design. I think my favorite part of this living room is the amazing black exposed beam as well as the fireplace! It’s interesting, the exposed black beam was actually a mistake and they went with it.
Jonathan’s Dining Room wasn’t my favorite. I don’t like the little table they chose or the red modern chairs. I think that this type of table and chair set is not very functional. The location of the dining room is also quite awkward being so close to the front door. I am completley in love with the blue wall with the feather pictures. Those are very adorable and I think I need them in my home! Jonathan’s choice of lighting in this space is amazing and that modern brown door is exquisite.
Drew’s dining area took the win! His beautiful lighting, gorgeous purple and silver color scheme and the amazing buffet in the back against the wall make this room completely drool worthy! Now THIS is a gorgeous space. I don’t know if I would have gone with velvet purple chairs because they are difficult to clean and maintain. Velvet was a little risky, because it might come off as a little dated, but the bold choice turned out to be the right choice!
Another view at Drew’s Dining Area: I would think that the only problem with this space is the close proximity to the island eating area.
Jonathan’s Kitchen won in the eyes of the Cousins, but it did not win in my heart! I love the waterfall island, the beautiful and bright colors and the gorgeous back splash. The white cabinets are perfect for this clean space and the lighting is just amazing! I do not like 70’s bar stools. However, I think Jonathan did an exceptional job keeping the color scheme consistent throughout the entire living room, dining area and kitchen spaces! Well done Jonathan!
I didn’t have any amazing attachment to the hardware, but you really can’t beat those floating shelves and the beautiful window overlooking the yard.
AWW once again Drew did not disappoint! It has a beautiful long island, and modern cabinets with equally modern hardware. I am in love with the plain counter tops, the silver back splash and the pendant lighting. I could stare at this kitchen for hours! I love the table with the blue chairs and the chalk board in the background. Pure bliss!
Here is the same picture we saw above:
The wood island is amazing and I am in love with the island’s bar stools! You guys…look at that back splash!!
BUT Drew’s kitchen is a little bit on the narrow side between the island and the sink. It would make it difficult to have multiple people helping to cook. I am also not a huge fan of the the walk through or galley kitchens. Jonathan’s kitchen layout is my all time favorite. It is in the corner and there is tons of cooking and work space.
Now we move onto the Master Suite: Jonathon’s Master is just amazing! I love the board accent wall, lighting and the color scheme. It is a bit 70’s but it totally works with Jonathan’s modern twist! Jonathan did a great job staying simple, but elegant.
Wowza! And no…I am not just talking about Drew (although….) Anyways, look at this beautiful master suite he designs! I don’t know if I would love to stay in a room THIS FANCY but this is definitely a luxury master suite. I love the rug as well as the wallpaper accent wall. I don’t know if I am a big fan of the curtains (although I understand it matches the color scheme) and I could do without the bench that Drew is sitting on.
I think that Jonathan’s bathroom was my least favorite of all of the designs. I didn’t like the accent tile he choose and I died when I saw the painting he chose to put into the bathroom. I know that this is not part of the home, but I don’t think this would have been in my design choices. Although my grandma who is an interior designer used to have paintings like this in her home so clearly it is a acceptable design. And let’s be real…I think Jonathan knows what he is doing. I am in love with his floating shelves over the toilet. These are such a great way to store some bathroom essentials but in a beautiful and pretty way.
Like I said before, I HATE the green bubbly tile that Jonathan chose. But I do appreciate the fact that he used the same cabinetry and hardware as the kitchen. This is very important to do so that it ties the entire home together.
I don’t know my feelings towards Drew’s master bathroom. I don’t like the circular mirror. It’s pretty, but not practical. Whomever will buy this house will most likely want to have a bigger mirror as they get ready in the morning. I am also not a huge fan in the purple red that he chose for the accent color. The chandelier above the bathtub is super bizarre and I would really want to have the bathtub in a different spot. In my dream home I would love to have my bathtub near a window so I can receive some natural light while I am enjoying my bath. But that SHOWER! I am in love this shower! I would never leave that shower. I love the glass, the tile and the different water spouts. I am also in love with the dark chocolate cabinets and the hardware.
These barn doors are the perfect touch to lead to the amazing walk in closet! I would kill for this walk in closet and these barn doors leading the way!
I would say Drew won the bathroom challenge, Lex and Alana LeBlanc thought differently. They chose Jonathan’s. This is clear proof that everybody has their own style and way of doing things!
Jonathan’s First Guest Bedroom is very cute! I love the colors and it reminds me kind of like the beach! I love the coast, so this bedroom really is amazing!
So…Drew’s guest room was a little bit too much for me! I then realized quickly that the room isn’t bad at all! The curtains are amazing, I love the closet organization and I am still in love with the dark floors that are throughout the house. However, that rug…too much! I am getting a headache!
The room really wasn’t bad, but the rug is just not my favorite at all.
Jonathan’s guest bathroom fits very nicely with the guest bedroom that appeared to be a coastal theme. This bathroom does not disappoint. I would like to see a different colored shower curtain though. All in all very well done.
Drew’s guest bathroom is BEAUTIFUL! However, it is not attached to the guest bedroom that we saw earlier. This is off of the hallway. This bathroom is probably one of my favorite rooms in the entire home. I love the sinks and the subway tile behind the sinks. I could do without the puppy paintings. The square accent tile on the floor is just a perfect addition to this guest bathroom! Flawless Drew. Flawless!
Here is Drew’s hallway leading to the guest bathroom.
Jonathan’s second guest bedroom was staged as a nursery! I have two babies and so this room was especially touching! I loved the diamond accent wall and the colorful giraffe picture. I am in love with the fluffy hanging things (whatever they are called) and in love with the drapes. This is such a precious room!
Drew’s second guest bedroom is another one of my favorite rooms in the entire home! I loved the bed frame and the yellow and gray pillows. Drew’s striped accent wall is just amazing and I am absolutely going to put that in one of the rooms in my home. I am also in love with the gray rug. This room is perfect!
Oh my gosh! That dresser is amazing!
Jonathan has one final guest bedroom that he just rocks! I would totally want to stay in this room! It has a beautiful window looking out to the pool, a walk in closet and a gorgeous yellow accent wall! This is one of my favorite rooms in Jonathan’s home.
I believe that both of the brothers did AMAZING jobs on their guest spaces!! They really rocked their rooms and they did a wonderful job maintaining their style throughout each space, but giving each one a unique look at the same time! Jonathan won the challenge according to David Bromstad and Tiffany Brooks. I am not sure which one I would choose, but I think that Drew might have one this one too (in my book).
One week the brothers tackled the extra spaces in their homes. Here are Jonathan’s extra rooms in his home and how he handled them. Here is Jonathan’s Family Room. I actually really like this room. I love the art work, the big fluffy pink pillows and the rug. I think my favorite is the television stand. This is something I really want in my home. A beautiful wood television stand would be perfect to store movies and other “not so pretty” items.
Another look at the family room space. I just really like this space!
Jonathan also created an office space. I honestly can’t stop looking at how perfect this office space is! I love all of the shelving and the beautiful desk! I think I NEED this! This is no longer a “wish room” this is a “HAVE to have room.” I think I would buy Jonathan’s home just for this room! Well done Jonathan! I am in love!
Drew had a room that he decided to turn into a game room. He did a great job, but it wouldn’t be my ideal space. I love the couch and the cute pillows, ughhh there is that stupid rug again! Drew what is it with you and that rug?! Anyways, I am not too keen on the Las Vegas sign…but this house is in Las Vegas, so I guess it makes sense haha.
My biggest problem with this room is the bar, because…well…I don’t drink and neither does anybody in my family. Regardless of my personal bias towards bars I really think he did a great job. I love the bar stools, the industrial lighting, the wood around the island and that clock. I need that clock! Great job Drew!
Here is Drew’s Laundry room. In my next home I am going to HAVE to design a laundry room like this! I love the space and the places where I can fold the laundry!
The exterior and curb appeal of the homes were the last thing to do on the Brother vs Brother challenge.
Jonathan’s home is perfect for that “modern look!” Right away I would be able to tell this was a modern home due to it’s sleek landscaping and the privacy screen. This is such a beautiful Las Vegas home! Jonathan did a great job!
Behind Jonathan’s privacy screen is his courtyard. That orange door is the perfect example of what people should expect when they come into the home. This courtyard is so simple yet inviting! I think a simple matching coffee table would have been a really nice touch.
Drew’s home is just stunning! I love the brick on the lower half of the home and the beautiful dark garages. This home is certainly beautiful. I also am in love with the amazing rock features in the front of the home! In the end I am not sure which home wins out in my book based on the exterior. Both did fantastic jobs! I think I am swaying a little bit towards Drew.
Jonathan’s backyard is very nice! I certainly wouldn’t mind having it! He had these weird dome seats (not sure what they are called). They surround a rock fireplace! I would love to have this! This is such a unique touch to his home.
The pool is beautiful with surrounding beach chairs.
That little hut in the corner is adorable. It can carry towels for your guests!
You can’t go wrong with this outside dining area or that pergola with furniture in the back of the yard. Jonathan also decided to have some green space in his back yard. It is of course artificial grass, but it is very uncommon to have any type of grass in Las Vegas. This is just an amazing touch.
I love this little seating area. Jonathan did an amazing job at tying all of the colors together.
In my book…Drew won by a landslide! I can’t stop awing over the color scheme he chose. My eyes are just glued to these gorgeous throw pillows that are on this couch! Literally can’t get my eyes off of them! Right when I took my eyes off of the pillows I noticed the bean bag toss game…my family LOVES that game!
The most appealing of this outdoor space HAS to be the outdoor kitchen! The curtains, the table and the rug is just perfect! The fans are such a good touch! I am just in LOVE! Nice job Drew!
In the end Jonathan won the entire Brother vs Brother challenge. He made the most profit from his home. I think that if I chose the best home based on my personal preference I think I would just HAVE to go with Drew’s. I think my style most closely fits with his. However, I really did like the layout of Jonathan’s kitchen better and I am in LOVE with that office. Both brother’s did just an amazing job! Great job brothers!
