DIY Shelf: A Full Tutorial!
I really wanted to put a floating shelf on my wall. I had a huge blank wall and I still hadn’t decided what I wanted to put on the wall. We have lived in the home for about 5 months and I have just been staring at this big blank wall and couldn’t decide what I wanted. I finally decided on a floating shelf when I came across an old board piece in our back yard.
It was dirty, but I saw potential!
I bought these really cool brackets from Lowe’s! I bought them as a pair for $8. You can get some really cool ones though through Amazon or if you thrift shop. I kind of liked the look and price of these ones.
The first thing that I did was draw a line where I wanted my shelf to be. I wanted to make sure it was leveled when I put it up.
I used a stud finder to find the studs underneath the line that I drew for the shelf.
I marked where I wanted the brackets and the holes.
You will want to follow the instructions provided by the specific brackets that you choose.
I drilled into the wall and then used small screws to drill from the bottom to the top
Nice and sturdy!
If I had to do it again I would have made my shelf a little bit shorter. It seems pretty high up on the wall. Now I am going to have to put another shelf underneath it to make it so it’s not as awkwardly placed on the wall, but I am very satisfied with how it turned out!
